With over 18 million units sold, India remains the largest market for two-wheeler automobiles. Evaluating the country’s preference w.r.t. CC-Class segmentation, the 51-125cc range segment is by far the market leader with around 70% of the total units sold, followed by the 126-250cc at around 25%.
The sales figure in the country declined from FY18 to FY19, and with around a 17 percent decline in the motorcycle and scooter segment during FY19-20 vs. FY19-18, the situation seems more bleak than ever.
Though the figures have dropped drastically from 7.6 million units sold during FY2018–2019, Hero Motocorp still leads the sales figure with around 6.2 million two-wheelers sold in FY2019–2020.
Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) ranked 2nd with around 4.7 million units of two-wheelers sold, while TVS was placed 3rd with around 2.4 million units sold in FY2019-2020. Bajaj Auto came in 4th with 2.078 million, and Suzuki secured the 5th place with 685 K units sold. In the top 5, only Suzuki registered a small positive growth of around 2.5%.
